The Alberta Society of Fiddlers (ASF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving, promoting, and celebrating Alberta’s rich fiddle music tradition.

For generations, fiddle music has brought Albertans together through community dances, festivals, jam sessions, workshops, camps, and mentorship. The ASF proudly supports fiddlers, musicians, dancers, volunteers, families, and music lovers of all ages who share a passion for keeping this important cultural heritage alive for future generations.

Through memberships, donations, volunteerism, and community partnerships, the ASF works to encourage public participation in, appreciation of, and preservation of fiddle music across Alberta.

Your support helps the ASF continue meaningful programs and community initiatives throughout the province, including:

• Providing twenty $200 bursaries annually to help musicians attend ASF summer and winter fiddle camps, ensuring financial barriers do not prevent participation in music education and mentorship opportunities.

• Supporting youth fiddle programming at major Alberta music events, including:

– The Kid Fiddle Academy at the RiverCity Bluegrass Festival (2025 & 2026)

– Youth Workshops at the Grand North American Old Time Fiddle Championship in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta (2023–2026)

• Supporting public appreciation of high-level fiddling performances through contributions to events such as:

– The North American Fiddlers Convention 2025

– The Canadian Grand Masters Fiddle Contest 2026 in High River, Alberta through Charlie’s Challenge, a member-led fundraising initiative

• Hosting public old-time dances and community music gatherings that foster intergenerational connection, cultural appreciation, and accessible live music experiences.

• Publishing four newsletters annually to connect and strengthen Alberta’s fiddle community.

For decades, the ASF has served as a hub for traditional music education, mentorship, and community building in Alberta. By supporting musicians of all ages and skill levels, we help preserve an important part of Canada’s cultural heritage while creating welcoming opportunities for learning, collaboration, and lifelong friendships through music.
