Lauren Dykstra – Spruce Grove, AB

Classical violin and fiddle.

Lauren holds a BMus and MMus in Violin Performance and is a consummate musician and an excellent instructor. In addition to her diverse performance experience, Lauren has a strong background in violin pedagogy. She has been teaching since 2006, including three years at the Brandon University’s Conservatory of Music. Although Lauren is not directly involved in the folk/fiddle music world, she is happy to have students who are!

Sarah Card - Beaumont & Fort Saskatchewan, AB

Classical violin, fiddle, viola and piano (Beginner to advanced)

Sarah is a talented musician with an impressive depth and breadth of music training, performance and teaching experience. In addition to her strong classical string and piano training, Sarah studied Celtic fiddle for 5 years with Canadian folk performer and recording artist, Shannon Johnson.

Catherine Rose M.Sc. - Calgary (North-Central), AB.

Taking fiddle and classical violin students beginner to adult.

Catherine has advanced teacher certification in the Mark O’Connor Violin Method. She graduated from the first Canadian class in May 2012 and completed advanced teacher training in July 2014. Catherine has also taken the Suzuki Violin Teacher Training Courses ‘Every Child Can’ and ‘Violin Method, Book 1’ and is a Certified teacher for the Royal Conservatory of Music.

Both group or private lessons are available for all ages. Private lessons are typically 1/2 hour in length.

Melanie Smith-Doderai B.A, B.Ed, M.Ed (Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta)

Melanie Smith-Doderai holds a B.A, B.Ed, M.Ed and is an active member of the Alberta Registered Music Teachers Association and the Alberta Strings Association. Melanie has been awarded the 2009 Excellence in Music Teaching Award as well as the 2012 – 2014 CMFTA Recognition for Professional Achievement Award. In addition to this, she volunteers as the acting treasurer for the Fort Saskatchewan Music Festival, consultants for the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra’s YONA Sistema Project and has written and published nine theory books for string instruments through Mel Bay Publications.
